5/24/11 - Memorial Day Classic Tournament Schedule & Info
  • The schedule has been posted for the Disney Memorial Day Classic and to my surprise there are quite a few less teams in this tourney, however still some familiar teams that will be challenging.  Our first game isn't until Saturday at 2:45 pm at the Wide World of SportsComplex on Court 2.  Everyone needs to be at the court by 1:45 pm on Saturday before our game.  Our second pool play game will then be at 7:45 pm Saturday evening, also on Court 2 at the WWS complex.  From there, bracket play begins on Sunday morning/afternoon depending on seeding and we have 2 more guaranteed games on Sunday overall.  To make it to Monday we will need to either advance to the Championship or third place game with 1-2 wins on Sunday.

5/11/11 - AAU State Tournament Schedule & Info
  • The schedule for this weekend's AAU State Tournament has finally been posted and call be found following the links below.  Look for "Q2" on the schedule under the South Econ gyms, as that is us and we are in Pool Q for 9th Grade Division 1. Our first game is at 10:30 am Saturday morning at the South Econ Community Center (3850 S. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando, FL 32829) on Court 1.  Everyone will need to be at the gym by 9:30 am. Our second game will be Saturday evening at 6:00 pm at South Econ but on Court 2. From there we will be in bracket play starting on Sunday.

5/4/11 - Practice Changed to Sunday
  • With a few guys starting spring football, we're going to move this week's practice from Thursday to Sunday and to Dunbar HS.  So we'll be back at Dunbar High School on Sunday from 5-8 pm.  Everyone needs to be there as our next tournament is the following weekend and this may be the last chance to practice before that tournament.

4/21/11 - Disney Easter Classic Schedule Updated Again
  • The schedule for the Disney Easter Classic has been slightly changed but only affects our 3rd pool play game.  Our first game will still be at 10:15 am on Friday morning but will be at ESPN Wide World of Sports (700 South Victory Way, Kissimmee, FL 34747) (Court 5) instead of Foundation Academy. Players need to be at the gym Friday morning by 9:15 am but with I-4 traffic the safe bet is to leave early enough to allow for 30-45 minutes extra.
  • However, we will now only have 2 pool play games, both being the Friday games with the same times and locations.  Our Saturday morning pool play game at 9:45 am has been cancelled as it appears the 4th team in our pool pulled out.  This in turn means we will be guaranteed to advance to bracket play which would mean our first game Saturday would be at 4 pm (if 3rd place in pool), 5:15 pm (if 2nd place), or 9:00 pm (if 1st place).  Therefore, we may try and get the team together to do something Friday evening with no games and no early wake up call.
  • Easter Classic Schedule/Results (Click on 9th Grade - Division 1)
  • The team will be staying at the The Destiny Palms located at 8536 Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, Kissimmee, FL 34747. Please call us at 941-875-1563 by Monday morning if you would like to make reservations here as we can most likely get you a discounted rate while rooms are available.
  • We will have the uniforms for the players at the first game.
  • Any players needing a ride to the tournament will need to try and arrange the ride at practice Thursday with a teammate. We also need to know ASAP if players will be staying with the team or their parents.
  • We will be sending out an email with the Schedule attached. Please email us if you do not receive it, or if you have any other questions at SWFLSelect@yahoo.com or call 941-875-1563.
  • Also, the second/final installment of fees will be due at the tournament or at practice on Thursday.  Let us know if you need more time and we will work with you.

4/15/11 - Practice Update for Thursday, April 21
  • Practice this week is again set for Thursday from 6-8 pm at South Fort Myers High School (14020 Plantation Road, Fort Myers, FL 33912). Make sure to bring a reversible jersey. Everyone NEEDS to be there.  Thanks and see you Thursday.

4/4/11 - Disney Spring Classic Results
  • The SWFL Select 15-Under/9th grade team enjoyed a successful first tournament over the weekend up in Orlando.  They finished 2-2 overall. They took 2nd place in a very tough pool with 2 teams from highly recognized statewide programs, losing to Nike Team Florida 47-39 but then defeating South Florida Elite 67-58.  Once in bracket play, they were able to advance to the Quarterfinals before they were eliminated by eventual tournament champion Florida Family.  It is worth noting as well that the only other team Select lost to, Nike Team FL, also reached the championship game.  It was a great first tournament for the guys, and we're looking forward to the Disney Easter Classic April 22-24 once they have a few more practices together as a group.  Go Select!!

3/20/11 - 9th Grade (15-Under) Roster Announced
  • 15U/9th Grade Head Coach: Desire Gabou.  Coach Gabou is currently an assistant coach at Lely High School in Naples. Before joining the Trojans staff for 2010-11, Coach Gabou played at Western Kentucky University, where he was part of the Hilltopper team that reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

  • Practice: We should be finalizing the date, location & time of practice for this week by tomorrow. All players will need to bring a copy of their most recent Report Card as well as a COPY of their Birth Certificate with them to the next practice.  Make sure to check back on the site tomorrow evening for updated information.
  • Our first tournament will be in two weeks, April 1-3, in Orlando at the Disney Wide World of Sports in the Disney Spring Classic. If you did not get the Parent Information Sheet at the Final Tryout or before, please email us so we can get it to you.  The first installment of team fees will be due at the first tournament.  Parents, please let us know if you will be making the trip to the first tournament and your son will be staying in your hotel room or with the team so we can make reservations accordingly. Thank you.
  • Thanks to all the guys who tried out as you made it a very tough selection process. To those guys who were not selected, keep working hard in the offseason and hopefully we'll see you next year at tryouts to give it another shot. To the guys who made the roster, now's the time to work even harder, and make the most of this opportunity. Make sure you're always in shape, and competing every time you step on the court!

2/28/11 - SWFL Select 2011
  • In 2011, SWFL Select will be cutting back on the number of teams from 15U-17U to just a 15-Under/9th grade group.  With the tough economy, and the lack of businesses able to sponsor, we chose to focus on one team with the goal in mind of being able to drop the fees for players & families.  We did not want to charge such high fees again, but to put together a competitive schedule the funding was not there to do multiple teams and still drop the fees.
  • With the focus solely on putting together a very competitive, elite level 9th-grade/15U group, we feel like we can make this a successful year still for SWFL Select. The schedule will be very competitive with 6-7 AAU tournaments throughout the Spring and Summer.
